EURAS SYNGAP1 Registry Receives Mac Keith Press Best Abstract Award at EACD / IAACD 2025
We are pleased to announce that the abstract “Empowering Patients in Research: Insights from the World’s Largest SYNGAP1 Registry” has been awarded the Mac Keith Press Best Abstract Award at the joint 37th EACD (European Academy of Childhood Disability) and 4th IAACD (International Alliance of Academies of Childhood Disability) Congress, which took place from June 24–28, 2025, in Heidelberg.
The award is presented by Mac Keith Press, publisher of the journal Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, and recognises outstanding scientific merit and clarity of presentation in the field of childhood-onset disabilities. It is considered one of the most prestigious accolades for research presented at the annual EACD congress.
The awarded abstract was authored by K. Eschermann (Salzburg, AT) and L. Kiwull (Salzburg, AT). It was co-authored by V. Schmeder (Krefeld, DE), M. Mengual Minojosa (Krefeld, DE), G. Kluger (Salzburg, AT), C. von Stülpnagel (Salzburg, AT), D. Weghuber (Salzburg, AT) and M. Zenker (Magdeburg, DE).
Study Summary: The abstract presents preliminary data from the SYNGAP1 registry. The study underscores the feasibility and value of app-based, multilingual, patient-driven data collection in rare neurodevelopmental disorders. It demonstrates how active family participation and digital tools can accelerate knowledge generation and foster international collaboration.
