Leon & Friends e. V. (terminated its work in 2025; activities taken over by Syngap Elternhilfe e.V.)

Leon and Friends e.V. was founded in 2018 in Austria. It is a non-profit organization, with the mission to improve the life of individuals affected by SYNGAP1-related disorders by fostering research projects. Since its foundation, the Austrian organization has been at the forefront of SYNGAP1 research in Europe. LaF have already provided several seed grants for pre-clinical research projects. This was a crucial contribution to the work of the EURAS project, which will enable the continuation of the research started by Leon and friends e.V.

As Leon and Friends e.V. concludes its organizational activities, the German SYNGAP Parents Association (Syngap Elternhilfe e.V.) will continue to support the patient community and will take over one of the research projects previously initiated by Leon and Friends e.V.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the extraordinary commitment and invaluable contributions of Leon and Friends e.V. to SYNGAP1 research. Prior to the launch of the EURAS project, Leon and Friends e.V. supported several key researchers and facilitated essential scientific connections. These researchers are now integral members of the EURAS consortium, ensuring that the pioneering work initiated by Leon and Friends e.V. will continue and expand within a strong European research network.
